Departing NATO Commander Hypes Nonexistent Russian Threat — Stephen Lendman

Stephen Lendman calls out Washington and NATO commander Breedlove for driving toward war with Russia. I have slightly edited Lendman’s article.

Thousands more US-led NATO forces are being provocatively deployed near Russia’s borders.

Interviewed by Sweden’s Dagens Nyheter broadsheet, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov accused NATO of “inching closer and closer to Russia’s borders. But when Russia takes action to ensure its security, we are told that Russia is engaging in dangerous maneuvers near NATO borders. In fact, NATO borders are getting closer to Russia, not the opposite.”

The 1997 NATO-Russia Founding Act prohibits provocatively deploying Alliance forces near Russia’s borders. US history shows a flagrant disregard for agreement terms.

Hyping a nonexistent Russian threat is part of US-led NATO fear-mongering, a pretext for greater military spending at a time when demilitarization should be prioritized with resources used for vital social needs.

Departing NATO commander Breedlove urges more spying on Russia. He lied when he claimed that Moscow “has not accepted the hand of partnership but has chosen a path of belligerence.”

Fact: Putin is the world’s preeminent peacemaker, waging war on no other nation, threatening none.

Fact: Endless US-led NATO wars partnered with Israel and other rogue states violate world peace.

Gen. Breedlove and likeminded hawks accuse Russia of rejecting “Western values … chos(ing) a different path.” What Breedlove means by rejecting “Western values” is rejecting US political and financial hegemony.

Russia is independent and intends remaining so. Russia rejects provocative US-led NATO actions threatening its security.

Washington wages endless wars of aggression. A US-instigated global war seems inevitable.

He lied saying Moscow “has not accepted the hand of partnership but has chosen a path of belligerence. We need to readdress where we’re heading.”

Russia is proudly independent and intends remaining so. It rejects provocative US-led NATO actions threatening its security, responding accordingly.

America wages endless wars of aggression. An unthinkable US-instigated global one seems inevitable.
